I’m on a bit of a break this week—sort of a working vacation. I’ve also been thinking about vacations lately because Alix and I have one of those signature anniversaries next year and I want to do it right.
So while I’m out of pocket this week, tell me (and the rest of our little community) your favorite vacation stories. Where’s somewhere you love to go? What are some tricks you’ve learned about traveling well?
Let me know and we’ll dream together.—TT
Our 25th anniversary was spent in Negril, Jamaica at a resort called Swept Away. It was magical. It was couples only, no singles or children. Blissfully quiet. Crystal clear water and palm trees up to the edge of the water. Food was fabulous. It was all inclusive, no tipping! If an employee was particularly helpful, you wrote about it on a card at the end of your vacation and the resort rewarded them. White sand, gorgeous flowers. That was some years ago, I hope it is still the same. It was like living in a movie for a week.
The best vacation of my life was on the island of Crete, Greece. My wife and I rented a car and travelled around its West and South seaside. The scenery, the villages, the locals - everything and everyone was just beautiful. The food was superb. Although, if I had to choose only one thing, for me that would have to be the crystal-clear waters of their beaches. My favorite spot was the small village of Loutro - only accessible by boat. A part of me has stayed there ever since, it never came back.
