I’m 100% with you on Joni Mitchell and on seeing the video of Both Sides Now from Newport. Tears were streaming down my face at the poignancy of the lyrics at this stage of her life. And mine.
Watching that clip reminded me of the legendary Vince Gill at George Jones’ funeral. He had recently lost his brother after years of struggle, and he couldn’t get all of the vocals out on “Go Rest High on that Mountain.” But Patty Loveless carried him through it, and the rest of the way, he let his fingers do the singing. Reminds me, I need to check out more Patty Loveless.
Music we enjoyed in 2022…

Some 2022 likes:
- Trampled by Turtles - “Aplenglow”
- Dropkick Murphys - “This Machine Still Kills Fascists” (covers of Woody Guthrie songs. Very surprised. Not a bad song on the entire album)
- Steve Earle - “Jerry Jeff”
- Charley Crockett - “The Man From Waco”
- Amanda Anne Platt & the Honeycutters - “The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”
P.S.: I listen to Dylan every, single day.
These are great picks. And thanks for listening to Dylan so I don't have to :)
Prob my fav 2022: Tyler Childers’ JUBILEE
While I’m here: Dylan = 🙌🏼
That Joni Mitchell performance brought tears to my eyes. You’d have to have a heart of stone for that not to touch you.
As you already said, Tommy. D’oh!
Great minds.
Sadly, I probably have to go with the old George Harrison charge, unconscious plagiarism. 😉
Brandi Carlisle has a light that will never dim.
