In answer to your question about how I listen to the Southbound podcast, I use the app Overcast, which I've been using for a long time to listen to all podcasts. Keep up the great work!

Rum punches and Bob Marley get me through these dark days until Dec 21st and I round the corner! Plus older relationships can be so dear because as we age we usually discover what really is precious in our lives!❤️

Tommy, The Writing Shed is always a rich experience! As a poet, I am fascinated and moved in a poignant way by the movement and changing quality of light. So the beginning of your blog resonates with me. I love Vermeer's light-infused and light-defined paintings and recently bought a deaccessioned book about his work at our library's book sale. Hearing music I associate with John Denver brings me to tears now. I was a huge fan during my growing up days. Thank you for sharing Lana's authentic and textured rendition of this beautifully descriptive song ❤️

Thank YOU for this lovely comment ... plus, you taught me a new word! I'd never heard "deaccessioned" before.

LOVE that quote from the IMDB page. So true. And thanks for the tip on the Lana Del Rey cover. I've added it to my covers playlist. I'm kind of proud of the list.

I think I would really like Stephanie Courtney if I ever met her. And, no, Progressive is not my insurance company.

Love in the Nursing Home - that piece was marvelous.

Finally, I understand that sometimes people like things that I don’t, and vice-versa, like dog shows, which remind me a little of children’s beauty contests, to be honest, although less icky. I tend towards egalitarianism these days in most things, and so I am all for including Frenchies of any color. I understand that would cause chaos in that dog community for many people.

Good. 😉

The Paul Auster quote! In keeping with Vermeer's eye for the might and beauty of domestic moments.

For a period of my life, I lived in Sweden. I remember vividly the winters in which the Sun will never come up. The difference between the "day" and the "night" was how black the darkness was. The nights were as dark as closing the eyes deep into the ocean. That said, I think it was all somewhat exotic (at least for a South Spaniard like me).

You never disappoint...I always find loads to love in your newsletter and I'm eagerly awaiting your dog book in spring; I've re-ordered it and hope they'll ship it to me in France. I showed my dogs in both conformation and obedience trials for many years as a hobby, but got tired of the tiresome subculture that surrounds most "sports," from beauty pageants to the NFL. Humans can ruin just about anything if they get together...But a human like Vermeer makes you glad to be part of the species. I saw the exhibition of his work last spring in Amsterdam and was enthralled. After a grey, dark Parisian winter, a little Vermeer light goes a long way. Thanks for writing!
