We've enjoyed it so far--maybe not quite as much as our very favorites, but it's compelling. The backstory of losing his wife and daughter add a note of melancholy through the whole series...
Have to admit I always think it’s a sacrilege to redo a song that Bonnie Raitt has done. But this is about perfect. Whatever Vince Gill does, he does with sweetness. Well, except that time he cussed out those fuckers at Westboro Baptist Church, which I loved him for. And Maggie Rose’s voice has just the right quality for this anthem. ‘Cause that’s what it is.
Thank you for this, Tommy. See you next Saturday. ❤️
As someone else said, Uecker was an elite member of the Good Time Hang Club. Ball game, golf course, airport, hell hospital you enjoyed your time with him, the laughs, the humanness. If you had that time with him you spent the rest of your life telling stories about his stories, as I am doing now. And the jokes were always on him. He never made other players the butt of his joke.
Man, I would LOVE to come to Powell's--it's on my bookstore bucket list. It's a hard trip to justify given the costs ... but I will definitely throw my two cents' worth in favor!
The average ballplayer has value. Wins Above Replacement tries to compare a player to someone with no real value because they can easily be replaced by someone as good (if not better). Uecker was worse than that (though still much better at baseball than say, me).
I recently watched the two seasons of Ridley and loved it along with his jazz songs. Did you and Alix watch The Marlow Murder Club? I hope both these shows get new seasons 🤞🏼and lastly, you hit the nail on the head with this version of Bonnie Raitt’s amazing song. This version gave me that same deep sigh❣️
I love comments on crazy recipes, one of my favorites being from so long ago that capturing them to enjoy later wasn’t a thing. It was a recipe for ice.

Vince Gill's voice always makes me rethink religion.
Right? Some kind of higher power had to create that.
I really enjoyed Conclave. The lust for power is not absent in religious orders either.
Bonnie Raitt’s version of I Can’t Make You Love Me is beautiful and the most heartbreakingly sad song I have ever heard.
It's a beautiful newsletter, as always.

Man, I want to be in the Good Time Hang Club.
Maggie Rose and Vince Gill. What a combination. So beautiful.
You should come to Powell’s Bookstore in Portland, Oregon on the paperback tour. It’s the world’s largest bookstore! https://www.powells.com/
I just really want to meet my favorite writer!
