This Substack is one year old today. Feel free to hum Barry Manilow’s “Looks Like We Made It” to yourself. Quietly. I went back and checked to see how we’ve grown. My first post went out to everyone who was on my old MailChimp mailing list. Here’s where we started:

Congratulations! There was definitely a time when I would've thought it to be a utopian dream that you could write something and immediately have it transmitted to subscribers in 58 countries. It's not a complete utopia, but it never is.
Hmmm, a reward for a such a successful first year may call for a walk among the official keepers of the St Bernard breed in Switzerland, tax deductible for someone writing a book about dogs.
