I happen to also be able to roll out that particular sonnet by memory (some would say rote 🙄) but to hear & see it from Dame Judi Dench is a lift to my heart on this Monday morning. She speaks & you can hear beyond the rhyming words to the tender love letter that is this sonnet. Oh ...

This post is the topmost ever for you. The pot in the likker comment was a kikker. The Ratatouille clip, the introduction to Meute, all out of this earthly coil.

Mmmm... the turnip greens. My mouth started watering one paragraph in. And you are right, they are the best greens ever... collards are cool, mustard is spicy, kale is healthy but turnips are the umami of greens. My grandmother was legendary for her turnip greens and would bring them, packed in those plastic containers that used to hold sherbet or cool whip, to every family dinner. They were so good, I would request them as a birthday present as a kid. When I used to come home from college, she would make a mess of turnips, neckbone and rice and a hoecake to sop it all up. Still my favorite memory meal of all time.

Outstanding entry today! The music links were fantastic and, as tarhoosier mentioned, the potlikker and Ratatouille bits were perfect! Happy birthday to me!

WOW maybe taking a few nights off is a GOOD thing? Out of the park here Tommy. Glad to hear you at NCWN - you were funny, right on all of your POVs and real. Thanks for such an amazing opening speech for writers, etc. And MEUTE - amazing. Thanks for bringing them into our lives!

I didn't discover potlikker until we moved South from NYC but a proper Southerner explained the cornbread method in exactly the right terms for my Jersey-bred Italian-American brain: "You know how you clean your pasta plate with bread (ed: we call that 'scarpetta')? It's kinda like that, but for us."
