Joe Pickett is a Wyoming game warden who finds trouble wherever he goes. A very straight up, always goes by the book kind of guy with a family including 3 daughters. Penned by C J Box (20+ books). ABC televises Big Sky, also by Box. Love your newsletter and columns. I worked for the Observer for many years in Research/DataBase.
I love Tarantino movies, but I did not love Reservoir Dogs. I'm obsessed with the Kill Bill series (and think it is his best work) and any time I tell someone, they look at me funny because "Pulp Fiction" didn't come out of my mouth.
I'm a HUGE Isbell fan and a major Sturgill fan ... but I understand. The only Tarantino movie I've really enjoyed was JACKIE BROWN. I think it's that Elmore Leonard thing again.
Many who have never been to New York, "know" the city (you can insert LA, London, etc. for NYC). They have seen the Empire State Building and the rest of that skyline all their lives. They are familiar with e horse-drawn carriages in Central Park. They have experienced the lights of Times Square and have no problem imagining what an encounter with an NYPD officer would be like. This familiarity does not justify the removal of a real-life visit to the city from a bucket list. Do yourself a solid and watch the damn movie(s)!
i couldn't love this more! Thank you so much for expressing what I've always felt. I've never seen Titanic, The Birds, Psycho or anything by Quentin Tarantino ... and I'm good with it!
As I mentioned above, I'm not a Tarantino fan except for JACKIE BROWN. I do love some Hitchcock, but REAR WINDOW and VERTIGO and THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH are all better than PSYCHO, imho.
Though I feel like a literate and informed individual, I must confess, I have seen few of the films that were academy award “Best Picture” Winners. Most just don’t appeal to me, even after being elevated to “Oscar” winners
And……I too love Justified. In fact, I just finished a marathon viewing on Hulu. There is news of a reboot with Timothy Reprising his role as Rayland. Boyd will be missed though. The anticipation is high. Thanks again Tommy for the thought provoking post
I’ve never seen any of The Matrix movies, and while I’m sure they’re amazing like everyone says they are, I’m really fine with not seeing them. I’ve also only ever watched like 1 episode of “The Simpsons.”
Saw the first Matrix and it was fine, but didn't make me want to watch the others. I watched a LOT of Simpsons when it first came out, but haven't watched much of the last 63 seasons.
I think The Godfather is a little tough to follow. It helps to read the book. So in case you ever change your mind, there is always that. Coppola leaves some things vague in my opinion. The book explains it better. Makes the movie much easier to follow.
you are killing a piece of my soul… but i get it. never seen lebowski, or tarantino or many others people all but shake me when they hear it. seriously though- godfather?! ;o)
I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies. I hate science fiction and find it boring. I truly do not see what anyone gets from these cartoon like characters if they are over age 10. I don't watch any Marvel movies either.
Many of the Marvel movies are very good, and the first three Star Wars movies are pretty great (especially EMPIRE STRIKES BACK). In general, I'm OK with cartoon characters. Most of my life lessons, I learned from Bugs Bunny.
Never ever got into Radiohead. I know I'm supposed to love the band, OK Computer, and Kid A as the apex of 2000s-era rock, but I never connected with any of it ... too cold and sterile.
Also I never saw Dirty Dancing or Pretty in Pink, which infuriates a huge swath of my fellow Gen X friends. I'll survive.
I have the same mentality about The Godfather (which I've never seen in full). For a long time I could say the same about Star Wars, but when the third trilogy came out, I made a point to watch all of them. I'm happy I did.
Never watched or read any Harry Potter or Lord of Rings. I also love Justified and Jack Reacher (although Joe Pickett is better).
I don't know Joe Pickett. Who's Joe Pickett?

Also every thing I read or see about Jason Isbell (most recently: https://americansongwriter.com/jason-isbell-i-dont-want-assholes-at-my-shows/) tells me he's the type of guy I want to support. I just can't get into the music for some reason. You can add Sturgill Simpson to that list as well.

I am vibrating at the return of JUSTIFIED, even a limited version.
It's stupid. Don't bother. 😉

Maybe I'll try the book!
I've never seen The Godfather either. I also haven't seen Casablanca. And I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird. The shame and guilt are heavy.
CASABLANCA and MOCKINGBIRD are both wonderful ... although you do probably know the stories.

I feel like LEBOWSKI represents my worldview so much better :)
I've never watched The Office. The few bits I've seen in gifs or short take videos just does nothing for me.
I never got into it when it aired, but I do love watching clips on YouTube.
I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies. I hate science fiction and find it boring. I truly do not see what anyone gets from these cartoon like characters if they are over age 10. I don't watch any Marvel movies either.

My music opinion that infuriates my cool friends is that "Creep" is by FAR the best Radiohead song.
No lecture from me! I never watched The Titanic. I know, I know . . .
A 90-minute version of TITANIC would be awesome. Unfortunately, it's 3 hours and 14 minutes.
If I had to choose between “The Godfather” or “Justified,” I’d go with “Justified,” hands down.
