I loved pop-up videos! But my favorite era was when they just showed regular old videos hour after hour, with the occasional breaking news from Kurt Loder about the newest Culture Club album or something :)
Watched the first episode of Man on the Inside last night and just... wow. Ted Danson is fantastic, so smoothly taking us from laughter to tears and back again. Can't wait to watch more.
Happy Thanksgiving. You are on my list for the Gratitude Zine project. Always good to hear your voice on the state of our despair on the political circus. And yes, gratitude is always the fix for "Everybody hurts" Prayers for you and your family during the Thankful Season.
I was happy to see your book listed among The New Yorker’s “ Best books we’ve read in 2024.” Good review, too. Well, not so much a full review as a very positive blurb. Still, it IS The New Yorker.
Al Green is plenty damn good. And, you’re absolutely right, Tommy, this would have been a showstopper for Otis. But, this is yours and mine and anyone who saw REM and whose eyes misted up listening to Stipe’s plaintive words because they hurt.
Familiaris was a daunting sized book for me to attempt, but since I loved Edgar Sawtelle back in the day, I had to go for it. LOVED it. What a fantastic storyteller. Then after I finished it, I had to read E.S. again.
You “miss the real MTV”, huh? Including pop-up videos???

I’ve made the leap from X to Bluesky. I love 💕 it over there 👉 you will, too.
Ah, the real MTV. Sigh.

Thank you for the smiles and laughs as I read through this. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Mr. Tomlinson,
I’m just finishing up Dogland, and what an entertaining, educational writing!
I have to say, my favorite line from the entire book is:
“He owed us a damn fart bubble”
Yes, funny words. However it is more than that. I could FEEL how indignant you felt. I could feel how you truly felt your dog owed this to you 😂😂
I can’t imagine the amount of research and time it took to write this. As a reader, I’m very glad you did!
Now if I could only find “Best in Show” to stream for free…😂
