Needing to be nervous, plus my weekly shareables: a crack-house childhood, rat-catching dogs, and vintage Barenaked Ladies
Your “butterflies” are your body activating, mobilizing your military so to speak, to meet a challenge or threat. Muscles tense, the GI tract shuts down because it takes too much energy to squeeze food through the tube, sex energy is redeployed to the front. Because, really, when you are being chased by Vikings or bears it is not a good time for a snack or potty break and certainly not a good time to think oooh he’s cute! Imma get me some of that! Without this revving of your engines your performances would look lackluster, boring, like a stoner describing air. Without recognizing that “ I’m prepping for this challenge” the brain starts looking for the threat and you interpret the bodily sensations as “fear”because fear elicits the same activation system. So, you are not a scaredy cat or snowflake. You are ACTIVATING! Interviews etc. would be oh so low energy without it.
I’d pay to read the handwritten stories in the notebooks that Lauren Groff stores away
Postmodern Jukebox is pretty amazing. Thanks for the tip!
