Wowza, Tommy. I clicked the link & well, it’s been about a billion years since I’ve watched that video of “We Are the World”. What an “in memoriam” montage that was. And the pairings! Dionne Warwick & Willie Nelson?! Are you kidding me?! How had I forgotten all this?!
I channeled my dad recently. (He’s been gone 15 years). I drove my sister’s car to drop her and my niece off at the Charlotte FC game. On the way home, the light came on so i put a few gallons of gas in it. I didn’t want her to have to deal with it on her way home that night in the dark after I picked them up.
A jolt of joy (or 2 or 3 or 10) never goes amiss - thank you for the ones today, Tommy. Soccer is not for me, but I could watch those fan videos all day.
I don't know the last time I saw the We Are the World video - what a moment in time that was and to see the joyful time they were having singing together. Dionne Warwick and Willie Nelson! Bruce and Stevie! Paul Simon and Kenny Rogers! Things don't have to be perfect to be wonderful.
If you haven't seen it, the documentary on the making of "We Are the World," entitled "The Greatest Night in Pop," was excellent. Here is the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD3oU1gowu4
Have I seen those World Cup fan videos you linked? Yes, Tommy, I’ve seen them all plus about a bazillion more because on Friday I fell down a rabbit hole catching up on alllllllll of them! And what a delight! As a native of Massachusetts I was particularly enchanted by Scotland and Boston falling into what may be the greatest love story of all time and now that I currently live in the South the joy over barbecue and Buc-ees is entirely relatable. I particularly enjoyed Europeans going gaga over our unlimited ice machines, yellow school buses, fire trucks and free drink refills. One thing that struck was when Scots visited Boston’s Italian North End and had never heard of a cannoli before. So much of what makes America great (food being a primary example) is because we are that melting pot. We forget that too often.
Those videos are all heartwarming. Hilario’s to watch Oldham and Colbert.
Hilarious!! Crying and laughing at all. Thank you for sharing these gems. And we love the show Slow Horses. Brilliant .

You’re a great dad, Rachel.

And then I stumbled on this which summed up my feelings pretty well: https://ladylibertie.substack.com/p/i-was-wrong-about-the-world-cup?r=1r5jb7&utm_medium=ios.
