Raising $ for the radio station
Hey everybody—just a really quick note that WFAE, the station where I do my podcast and weekly commentaries, is in the midst of its fall pledge drive.
I’ll be dragging my butt out of bed way too early Monday morning to work the 6-9 a.m. pledge shift, if you’re interested in hearing my dulcet tones on the radio. (Are tones the only things that can be dulcet? Nothing else ever gets else described that way.) I’ll also be on the air from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesday.
If you’re interested in donating, it’s super easy—just click here or call 704-549-9000. Anyone who donates is able to leave a little message to go along with the donation. If you happen to donate, leave us a note along the lines of “I heard about this through Tommy’s Substack.” It’s not for anything official—mostly just my curiosity.
A lot of Shedheads don’t live in the Charlotte area, I know … but I will say that WFAE is good listening no matter where you are. We’ve got a lot of your NPR/public radio favorites and a strong local news team. We’re a listener-supported station, in the same way this is a reader-supported newsletter. We count on folks like you to keep us going.
Here’s some music for making it through my pledge pitch. When I sent out my Friday newsletter, I didn’t know Gary Wright had died earlier in the week. “Dream Weaver” was the song most people remember, I think, but “Love Is Alive” is the real banger—it still sounds as good as it did in the ‘70s. I think it’s the tension between the layers of synths and his raw, bluesy voice.
Thanks, everybody.
