A couple of DOGLAND events to start off this morning, and then some rewards for Writing Shed subscribers!
—As I hope you can see above, I’m doing an event TONIGHT in Concord, NC with my buddy Scott Fowler, longtime sports columnist for the Charlotte Observer. We’ll be talking about our books and taking questions from the audience. The event is sponsored by Goldberry Books but will take place at the Cabarrus Arts Council. Tickets and more info here!
—I’m also doing an event in my favorite city—Athens, GA—on July 31 at the Athens Institute for Contemporary Art, sponsored by Avid Bookshop. Details here!
Those are the last couple of DOGLAND events I have planned for the time being … I have a few things scattered here and there into the fall, and I’ll be sure to let you know as the links go public.
So as I start to wind down the Love and Slobber Tour, I wanted to give all you Shedheads a treat or two for your patience and perseverance as I yammered about the book for months.
The first two perks are for paid subscribers only—if you’re not a paid subscriber to the Writing Shed, you can always upgrade here:
OK, here we go:
This Friday, I’ll be sending paid subscribers a deleted scene from DOGLAND—something I really enjoyed writing, but ended up taking out of the final manuscript. It’s a short profile of someone who got a dog that changed his life. I think it will resonate with a lot of y’all. If you’re not a paid subscriber yet, and you sign up by midnight on Thursday, you’ll get this bonus scene as well.
I’ll also be doing a Q&A for paid subscribers about DOGLAND—or anything else y’all would like to ask about! Send in your questions by next Wednesday, July 3, and I’ll publish the Q&A on July 5.
Here’s the instructions: send your questions to tomlinsonwrites@gmail.com with “Dogland Q&A” in the subject line. If you become a paid subscriber by July 4, you’ll be able to get the Q&A as well. Here’s the big one: I need to clear the shelves of some of my DOGLAND stuff as I get ready for my next project (whatever that is). So I’m giving away a bunch of the books I used for research. Some of them might be marked up a bit with my notes, and a couple might be a little, well, dogeared, but they’re all in good condition. Here’s a list (w/Amazon links for more info):
TRAVELS WITH CASEY, Benoit Denizet-Lewis
HOW TO TAME A FOX (AND BUILD A DOG), Lee Alan Dugatkin and Lyudmila Trut
OUR WILD CALLING, Richard Louv
THE OTHER END OF THE LEASH, Patricia B. McConnell

I’m going to open this giveaway to all subscribers, but I will give a priority to paid subscribers if two or more of you are interested in the same book. It also might help to make a second or third choice in case somebody else gets your first one.
Here’s the instructions: Email me at tomlinsonwrites@gmail.com with “book giveaway” in the subject line and your mailing address in the body of the email, plus whatever book(s) you’re interested in. (FYI, I promise I won’t use your address for anything else.)
I’ll notify you if you’ve got a book coming your way. If you don’t hear back from me, better luck next time!
I look forward to hearing from y’all about the book giveaway and the Q&A … y’all are the lifeline for whatever I do and I appreciate your support. Bonus scene going out on Friday and back to our usual routine on Saturday.
They better give ya good reviews Mr. Tomlinson. It takes a mean critic to rip a dog lover : )
